Position SummaryThe Nurse Practitioner diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illness, either independently or as part of a health care team. With a focus on health promotion and disease prevention, responsibilities include ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays, and prescribing medication.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:Analyze and interpret patients’ histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnosesDiagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuriesRecommend diagnostic or therapeutic interventions with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, simplicity, acceptability, adherence, and efficacyPrescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorizedPrescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies based on patient characteristicsEducate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual circumstancesMaintain complete and detailed records of patients’ health care plans and prognosesPerform other duties as assigned
